Intel launched OpenCV 4.7 version of its, open source computer vision library and supports Huawei Ascend CANN backend for the DNN module to speed up convolution processing in the DNN module.

Intel OpenCV is a software toolkit for processing real-time images and video and providing analytics and machine learning capabilities.

Huawei Compute Architecture for Neural Networks (CANN) is a heterogeneous computing architecture developed by Huawei for AI scenarios, including the operator library and TBE operator development kit, through which you can improve the development efficiency to better match the Ascend chip enablement.

Intel opencv

DNN framework provides basic functionality such as security, user administration, and content management, while modules tailor the website for specific deployment needs.

The DNN module was introduced with OpenCV 3.3. Without any dependencies, the model trained by the deep learning framework can be used after the standard installation of OpenCV. The inference calculation can be realized by borrowing the den interface of OpenCV.

Since 2019, Huawei has been facing several restrictions in the name of the U.S. entity list that prohibits the company from purchasing and getting new hardware components from the U.S. tech makers. Although, the company has been working on various solutions from AMD and Intel to get rid of all of the supply chain issues but Huawei may also be working on its own to make a new processor.

According to the information, Huawei has a new processor called “Pangu” (translated) that will be used in PC computers. The aim of this processor is to replace Intel and AMD chipsets used inside laptops and PCs. Meanwhile, there’s no official confirmation on the launch of such a processor but it’s revealed that the unveiling could take place in June next year.

Furthermore, the Pangu processor could appear first with next year’s MateBook models and it could be designed for the high-performance PC or non-consumer-based groups.

Huawei new processor Kirin

From the architecture side, the new Huawei processor is likely to feature ARM architecture related to the Kirin imprints and identical to Qualcomm Snapdragon cx/c series

By making some adjustments in performance and controlling power consumption to make it more suitable for PC platforms. On the other hand, the performance of the processor with this architecture cannot be compared to that of the x86 version, it’s very hard to adapt the operating system, components, and equipment.

However, it could run smoothly with limited apps and customization derived especially for the government sector or non-consumer-based area.

Huawei 5nm Kirin notebook:

A previous report suggests that Huawei has a new MateBook notebook to equip with Kirin 9000 series processor with a 5nm build process. it’s being reported that this is a stripped-down version of Kirin 9000 introduced first with the Huawei Mate 40 series in 2020. However, the platform has improved the overall quality and performance, yet it’s the last chipset that has made an entry in the Kirin lineup.

According to the latest news, the famous chip manufacture Intel has stated that the company is planning to invest 20 billion USD in establishing semiconductor factories in Europe, this will further expand to 100 billion in the coming years.

The project chief executive- Pat Gelsinger, French president- Emmanuel Macron, and Italian prime minister- Mario Draghi recently gathered regarding this project. The authorities discuss the global chip cutback that greatly strikes the European industries and other markets.

In the case of initiating this project, semiconductor production is expected to realize an increase of 20% in the coming decade across the global market. Furthermore, the company also intends to develop the most advanced chips for high stream computing power.

Interview with Greg Slater, Intel vice-president of global regulatory affairs

In an interview, the chief executive told that if Intel’s specifications for the project will achieve, the Europen chip market will be benefited from the company’s technology, and chip production will get more support to grow.

The official also said that we could allot separate manufacturing and packaging sites. It’ll grow more opportunities for the team to explore. Furthermore, we can also share the research and development work in the different European states, to spread the suppliers across the globe.

The main goal of the company to expand this project at a large scale and establish a wide ecosystem. It’ll not be limited to a single state only, instead expand its limits for the maximum benefits in the country.

Project Requirements:

The executive mentioned the following specification for the plan, the plants have to be good enough to support eight chip design abilities. Furthermore, the final call will carry out by the end of the year.

Site Area: 1,000 acres (estimates)

Expected Manufacturing: Germany, Netherlands, France, Belgium

Initial Investment: 20 billion USD (for 10 years)

Estimated Investment: 100 billion USD (maximum for a lifetime)

French Response: We are looking for the feasible situation

On the proposal of Intel, the French executives responded that indeed Intel wants to introduce 10-nanometre chip technology or even sound in our country. However, it takes a handsome amount of money to establish yourself among the worldwide most advanced technologies.

We’ll discuss this matter further with our consumers if it suites their needs. Moreover, we are planning to go with the most feasible situation. Adding to this it’s really difficult to ensure the states’ funding and plant’s competitiveness. “The cost deprivation is expected to 30-40% with Asia.

The official explained that Intel wasn’t just wanting a contribution, instead, the company wants an entire ecosystem. We don’t have the problem regards the investing sum, but its complex set of circumstances, which is hard to achieve for the moment.

Moreover, Intel is investing 20 USD in two new factories in the US and plans to double the plant on Irelan by investing 7 billion USD.  The company explains this as a multiyear strategy to compete with TSMC and Samsung. Additionally, it’ll develop 7nm chips.

Recently, Huawei has released the next generation of smart servers based on a third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor – FusionServer Pro V6 intelligent servers. It is designed to unlock powerful computing for any system.

According to the latest information, Intel said that this newly debuted third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor can fulfill more stringent workload needs, optimized for cloud, enterprise, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, network, and security workloads.

Regard FusionServer Pro V6 intelligent server, Huawei mentioned that this server has achieved innovation in hardware architecture, algorithms, and basic software. Let’s take a deep on these sections:

Architecture:

For large data centers, Huawei’s entire cabinet server is designed through the L1+L2 joint design, which can flexibly configure computing, network, and storage resources. The computing density is increased by 4 times. All modules can support online replacement and second-level operation and maintenance. At the same time, in terms of complete machine engineering, Huawei achieved 25% more computing power in the entire server machine and doubled the power density.

Software:

In the cluster computing scenario, through the Huawei cluster job scheduler, the cluster scheduling capability is increased by 3 times, up to 320,000 cores, and the computing resource utilization rate is as high as 90%; in the large-scale operation and maintenance management scenario, for deployment, discovery, upgrade, and maintenance, The five energy-saving management technologies were upgraded, and the operation and maintenance efficiency was increased by 30%.

Algorithms:

In terms of performance improvement, Huawei can provide more than 40 kinds of big data algorithm acceleration libraries, including machine learning algorithms and graph analysis algorithms, covering 80% of business scenarios; in terms of energy-saving, Huawei’s machine learning energy-saving algorithm (MPC-PID) can Under the same load, the entire server can save energy up to 5%; in terms of stability, the intelligent memory failure self-healing algorithm can reduce the downtime rate by more than 50% without business perception.
