Nowadays, we’re close to our smartphones than ever and this close partnership could bring some eye fatigue powered by Blue light. However, there’s a feature called Eye comfort that is pre-blended on Huawei EMUI to save your eyes, adding to this, we’ll also compare it with the Samsung One UI counterpart.

Although, smartphone makers are enhancing the display panel for the best quality possible but blue light emissions cannot be stopped.

Digital Eyestrain:

Using devices up close or for long periods can lead to digital eyestrain. Research has shown that when people use computers, laptops, and other digital devices, they tend to blink less often than normal. Fewer blinks can mean less moisture. Digital eyestrain means different things to different people but is generally related to the focusing system of the eyes.

Eye comfort:

A blue light filter decreases the amount of blue light displayed on the screen of the device, which can suppress the production of the sleep-inducing hormone, so filtering it out can help you sleep better. It will also help you to reduce digital eye strain.

Coming to the comparison, both Huawei EMUI and Samsung One UI come with eye comfort features and it’s time that we look into the aspects.

samsung one ui huawei emui eye comfort

Eye Schedule:

The Eye schedule feature allows you to enable/disable eye comfort with start and end time.

All Day:

Once enabled, the feature overlaps the screen for the entire time until you turn it off manually.

Level:

A slider is available on both software that filters out blue light to reduce eye fatigue, you can slide it left or right to increase/reduce the filter strength.

Flicker reduction:

Only Huawei EMUI comes with a flicker reduction feature, and as the name reflects, the option helps you to reduce flickering on the screen. This will affect color balance and auto-brightness control.

Samsung is playing One UI 5 activities for top smartphones and there are a lot of features to explore on this Android 13 adaptation but it still lacks a useful feature such as the Large folders from Huawei EMUI.

Yeah, Samsung knows innovation but the hand-in-hand relationship with Android has made it lazy. That’s how Samsung is making fewer efforts to make the One UI interesting and interactive.

Hence, this Android 13 version of Samsung One UI 5 doesn’t bring you any app management solution that competes with Huawei EMUI. Still, heavily, Samsung One UI relies on traditional app folders that don’t bring you the functionality that is required to manage the home screen app.

On the other hand, Huawei is the first in the world to bring such an easy-to-use feature that makes a big impact on app management. You just need to tap and hold an app folder, enlarge it and you can launch any app in an instant by just taping over the app icons of that folder.

Importantly, you won’t have to open that folder first.

Large Folders is now being copied by Chinese phone makers such as OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Oppo. Meanwhile, others are preparing to understand the concept so that they can also get it on their new devices.

As for Huawei, it introduced the first HarmonyOS 2 and with HarmonyOS 3, the company took gave this feature a whole new capability. As you can now reshape the large folders in different row and column layouts based on the app inside that folder.

Samsung:

There was a time when Samsung had its edge over other Android phone makers in terms of cutting-edge technologies but now, the South Korean firm has become worry-free. As it keeps on concentrating on new devices that aren’t irrelevant to the innovation and are unuseful in software use cases.

A few weeks ago, Google officially announced Android 13 for Android smartphones. Since then, various Android phone makers are testing their own version of Android 13 software. Although, the Pixel devices have already installed their share of stock Android 13 with the introduction.

Meanwhile, Google has confirmed that many smartphone makers will introduce Android 13 based software adaptations later this year.

Since Android 13 has already been launched under the AOSP (Android Open Source Project), the phone makers could finally begin to make a leap forward into the Android ecosystem with the latest version.

So, which Android 13 customized software are you testing? Is it Samsung’s One UI 5.0, OnePlus OxygenOS 13, Xiaomi MIUI 13/14, RealmeUI, ColorOS 13, or others?

Google has confirmed a list of devices as well as others that are the official partners to promote this new Android build including:

  • Samsung
  • Asus
  • Nokia
  • iQOO
  • Motorola
  • OnePlus
  • Oppo
  • Realme
  • Sharp
  • Sony
  • Tecno
  • Vivo
  • Xiaomi

Testing:

Huawei is not in the campaign, since it doesn’t officially support Android or the latest version. However, phone makers including Samsung have launched the One UI 5.0 beta program in different markets and so do the OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Oppo. These companies have initially announced the corresponding customized Android 13 software skins for flagship devices.

However, the range of testing will expand throughout the year and a stable version will be determined as the testing progress and bugs are removed gradually

Android 13 comes with better user interface customizations including the material you and brand new themed icons as well as a number of new color palette options. On the other hand, you can well manage your use and allowed permission for apps and systems.

That’s not it, one of the most important features of Android 13 also comes in the name of the per-app language. Yes, the feature allows you to translate an entire app’s default language into what the user desires it to be, which is awesome.

There are also some minor tweaks made throughout the software that will be used by different OEMs.

So, which version of custom Android 13 software you are testing on your eligible Android device? Let us know in the poll below.

Earlier this year, Google began testing Android 13 on Pixel devices and the Android maker has now reached stability mode and taken as the final version of Android 13. However, the official launch of Android 13 has been delayed.

Later in July, Google officially confirmed that the Android 13 launch is around the corner but the launch is indefinitely delayed. In the meantime, Google didn’t make any further remarks or statements on this matter.

Even after reaching the stability mode, why Google has delayed Android 13? Will it affect the release of Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and other Android smartphone makers? Let’s find out. We’re keeping Huawei out of this since the phone maker is not an official partner of Android mobile services.

Samsung:

Last week, Samsung opened One UI 5.0 beta testing in different markets. According to Sammyfans, the South Korean phone maker has based this custom mobile software skin on Android 13. That’s not it, the company has already started expanding the testing program in the U.S. right after the announcement, which is kind of a fast pace testing as compared to the past year.

Samsung One UI 5.0

OnePlus:

During the launch of the OnePlus 10T on August 3, OnePlus officially announced OxygenOS 13, which is based on Android 13. The company is testing this new software in beta on OnePlus 10 and 10 Pro devices, since the initial beta program.

OnePlus OxygenOS 13 android 13 delayed

Realme:

On August 4, Realme confirmed Android 13-based One UI 4.0 beta testing for Realme GT 2 Pro smartphone. This update comes with a number of new early access features powered by the new Android version. However, it’s yet to confirm for more Realme devices.

realme ui 13

Xiaomi:

Xiaomi also has its own version of Android 13-based MIUI – MIUI 13. The company is testing this software on Xiaomi 12 series both for Chinese and global models. However, a wide testing activity is yet to open.

and others

There is also another Android phone maker including Vivo, Oppo, Lenovo, and more that has started closed and open beta activities starting in August. It seems like, Google has given permission for all of the Android phone manufacturers to begin beta programs. So that Google could feature them during the official Android 13 launch.

Hence, the Android 13 release delay has not affected anything in the process…

Dark Mode is a feature that we all love to use and it nowadays works on all major smartphones but appears a bit different. Therefore a comparison between Huawei EMUI 12, HarmonyOS 2 vs Stock Google Android 12 vs Samsung One UI 4.1 vs Apple iOS 15, and Xiaomi MIUI 13 for dark mode feature has been arranged to see the changes these softwares bring to the most common parts of the user interface.

Dark Mode:

Dark Mode is a feature that is now available as part of Android, HarmonyOS, and iOS software. The feature helps you to apply a darker color scheme over the light interface to prevent eye strain in low light conditions. On the flip side, the dark mode also saves battery.

What are we gonna do?

Below, we’ll examine each of the smartphone software in their dark mode for the given part of the user interface:

  1. Quick Settings
  2. Settings Menu
  3. Dialer

As we use them the most in our day-to-day operations of smartphones.

Without further due, let’s begin our Huawei EMUI 12 vs HarmonyOS 2 vs Stock Google Android 12 vs Samsung One UI 4.1 vs Apple iOS 15 and Xiaomi MIUI 13 dark mode comparison.

EMUI 12:

In comparison to the last generation, EMUI 12 has good dark mode effects throughout the user interface, the use of dark gray and subtle black looks amazing. The use of light color icon background is really helpful and doesn’t shade much of the contrast if you look over them. Unlike the Control Panel shortcut switches, Huawei has tried to keep the user interface adequate contrast, which makes it very easy to adapt for long hours use case scenarios.

Huawei EMUI 12 dark mode

HarmonyOS 2:

The user interface used in EMUI 12 is derived from HarmonyOS 2.0 and they both are identical. check the screenshot below.

Huawei HarmonyOS 2.0

Stock Android 12:

Stock Android 12 has brought a lot of new changes in the user interface, quick settings tile system, and material you design. The user interface is surely intriguing and easy to navigate but by default, the quick settings tiles on the stock Android 12 maintain dark mode. Once enabled a dark gray color is applied to the Settings menu. Moving on, the software uses Google’s Phone app’s dialer, which is also used by Xiaomi in MIUI 13. The overall look and feel of the Android 12 dark mode is satisfying. Yet, everyone is free to try the Material you dynamic theme for maximized user experience.

Google Android 12 dark mode

One UI 4.1:

Samsung has been one of the best players when it comes to the dark mode features, the phone maker has introduced this feature on One UI, even before it came by default on the Android project.

The One UI 4.1 has further enhanced the accuracy and the color balance between foreground and background colors in the user interface elements. You will find these changes throughout the user interface.

Such as the Settings menu, you’ll find the shape of the background used in the menu items feels encompassing with the icon as well as the text label. Meanwhile, the use of a high tone on the dialer is perfect to know which button you are pressing to dial your calls.

The overall appearance of the Samsung One UI 4.1 dark mode is comfortable to the eye and it deserves praise.

Samsung ONE UI 4.1

iOS 15:

In iOS 15, Apple has kept the control center sleek, which looks the same once the dark mode is enabled or disabled. Yet, the translucent background changes along with the wallpapers once you apply the dark mode to the phone.

Moving on, iOS 15 has brought in the round shapes in the background of Settings menu options, which is a nice touch to look in dark mode and had a sharp appearance in the predecessor.

The color in the icons is also crafted with care as they remain the same in the light theme.

Despite its short search screen, I like the way, Apple has designed the round number pad on iOS, it is still, one of the best dialers that looks simple and elegant in dark mode.

Apple iOS 15

MIUI 13:

The dark mode feature on MIUI devices looks decent. Once you tap on dark mode, the phone tries to maintain the color composition and it seems like it is fighting to showcase the changes from the light theme.

The appearance of MIUI 13 dark mode is not supported by its font system, which is a kind of a bummer. As mentioned above, the software is keen to use the Google phone app on the global market, which is a good choice to go with for phone calls.

The overall look of MIUI 13 is decent but not good nor above.

Samsung’s latest One UI 4.1 and One UI 4.0 devices are powered by Android 12 and come with improved notification options. One of which includes the Flash Notification, which comes pre-built on Samsung One UI 4.1/4.0 (Android 12) devices and notifies users about any incoming notification via camera LED and display flash.

Notifications are an essential part of your Samsung One UI user interface and the core user interactions are derived from such Android architecture. System notifications as well as app notifications form a level of information and deliver them to you to get a glance at what’s happening or about to happen on your smartphone.

Once enabled, the phone will either flash the camera light or the screen when you receive notifications or when alarms sound. If you want something from your smartphone and do something extra, then you can try this flash notification accessibility feature to never miss any update on Samsung One UI 4.1/4.0 (Android 12) smartphone.

To enable, Flash Notification:

Open Settings > Search Flash Notifications and then select the right option.

From here you can enable two flash notification options, first is the camera flash notification. The second is the Screen flash notification. Both of these works according to their names.

one ui android 12 flash notification

However, Samsung has given the option to customize the use case of each feature for all, a few, or custom app numbers according to your preference. Since both of these options works independently, you can enable or disable them separately.

Customize Screen flash:

The best part about that screen flash is that you can choose the color of the screen while it flashes and preview it on real-time.

One UI 4.1 is the latest installment in the One UI series. The software is designed for efficiency and performance over One UI 4.0 and brings better features for Samsung smartphone consumers. On the other hand, you have the new Huawei EMUI 12, which comes with a variety of new functionalities to suit your Huawei device.

Therefore, two prime software from two prime smartphone makers should be compared. Hence, we’re here to make their spot the different competition sessions between Samsung One UI 4.1 and EMUI 12 quick settings. For this comparison, we’ll go through the user interface and the feature that comes into both of the quick settings.

Let’s begin the One UI 4.1 vs EMUI 12 quick settings comparison below.

Let’s start with One UI 4.1, the quick settings of this Samsung software look elegant. No doubt that Samsung really focused on the software for better user interaction and ease of access.

samsung one ui 4.1 quick settings

Samsung One UI 4.1 quick settings include a sleek design that reflects the user interface. The top bar features an edit menu, settings button, power key, and search. Followed by the date and time labels, and then there are two buttons for Device control to manage connected devices and Media output to manage all of the connected media devices.

There are various SIM card selection options including for calls, text messages, and mobile data. Later comes the quick action switches, that allow you to tap and enable any of the given settings. You will also get options to edit the layout of quick settings along with options to add new or remove old switches from the layout.

EMUI 12 Control Panel:

EMUI 12 has its own vibe and Huawei has brought in a new user interface directly from HarmonyOS operating system to this software to make it look intriguing with every launch. Speaking of which, the Control Panel of the EMUI 12 is divided into three sections.

emui 12 control panel

Media, Quick Settings Switches as well as Smart Device management. The Control Panel allows you to edit and manage switch options. You can also hide the smart device section.

The theme of the control panel looks interesting and the separate sections will help you better sort out options as compared to the One UI 4.1 but the virtual power button is still a big bummer for EMUI.
