The Huawei EMUI 12 software work to redesign your smartphone in an efficient way, not only in terms of the interface but also in features, optimization, and a new notification panel. And Huawei offers two separate panels one for the notification and another a control panel.

By creating a brand-new notification panel and control panel that is based on an in-depth study on user preferences and psychology. The interface has been split into two independent sections, which improves interactions and makes it easier to tell apart elements.

However, what do you think about a separate Notification panel and control panel in EMUI 12? What does new changes appear?

Before EMUI 12, the notification panel and control panel were initially integrated into a single panel. But after EMUI 12, when swiping down from the top of the screen reveals the notification panel and control panel but in a very different format.

The notification panel is accessed by swiping down from the left edge of the screen, while the control panel is accessed by swiping down from the right edge of the screen.

Huawei Separate panels EMUI 12

Why Huawei brought separate panels:

However, these revamp in the panel brought because Device+ and audio were added to control panels in EMUI 12. In addition to the existing shortcut switches.  And after adding this above-mentioned shortcut, it’s difficult to have notification messages, shortcut switches, and Device+ all displayed onscreen.

To access them alternatively, you may have to slide or scroll the screen. You would probably assume that the pull-down interface is fragmented and difficult given the complexity of those activities. Even locating a shortcut switch would be extremely difficult.

To read alerts or access the control panel, simply swipe down on the left or right sides of the screen, respectively, when the notification panel and control panel are split into two separate displays. Using Device+, it is simple to enable or modify shortcut switches to suit your needs.

Additionally, the audio control panel is also very helpful having to launch and close numerous audio applications. The ability to switch between apps and choose a playback device is greatly facilitated by shortcut switches.

Meanwhile, for all these reasons, I personally think it a good idea to have to separate panel. Since EMUI 12 places such a high value on user intuition, there is also the Device+ function, which makes it possible to collaborate seamlessly across devices.

But it’s all about my opinion, what about yours? How much do you like the idea of a separate EMUI 12 notification and control panel out of 10 on the scale? Just don’t forget to share reviews with us.

EMUI 11 is a revamped version of EMUI 10.0 and 10.1 and it comes with substantial improvements over the predecessor. However, EMUI 12 is something new and we’ll conduct a comparison series between EMUI 12 and EMUI 11 before EMUI 13 comes out. For this, we’ll first look into the changes that have been made to the EMUI quick settings or control panel and check out the differences.

Time to dive in.

EMUI 11: Quick Settings

EMUI 11 quick settings have the traditional quick access icons with a switch feature, which you can enable or disable with a tap. Other than that, you can also change the brightness level through the slider.

Furthermore, the notification panel is attached to the quick settings. Similar to the last version, the EMUI 11 also comes with various customization features to add/remove icons.

The panel has a soft background color that helps you differentiate between the icon and the background.

EMUI 12: Control Panel

EMUI 12 comes with a brand new Control Panel, which is a combination of various services in one place. The Control panel includes a media controller, and smart device manager that helps you connect and control devices such as tablets, FreeBuds, and Smartwatches.

What is Control Panel:

The Control panel in new Huawei devices takes the most common settings or options and put them on your phone’s home screen, allowing you to manage things in an easy way.

Let’s kick off our comparison from HarmonyOS 2.

HarmonyOS Control Panel includes four parts of the user interface – Media, Shortcut switches, Super device manager, and Smart Device controller.

The access to Control Panel is quite easy, you just need to open the Control Panel by swiping from the top right side of the display.

Talking about the sections, the media controls allow you to manage media audio playback on the device itself, switch audio apps, or switch playback to a connected audio device. The shortcut controls, enable, disable or set frequently use features on your fingertip.

The Super Device section lets you manage and control all of your connected smart HarmonyOS devices. Lastly, smart device control lets manage devices paired with the AI Life application.

The Control Panel lets you edit the switches, hide the super devices and edit devices for maximum usability.

EMUI 12:

When you look at EMUI 12, you’ll see a direct copy of the Control Panel Feature from HarmonyOS, as it features the same look. Meanwhile, there’s one change that you’ll see and that is the new Device+ panel instead of Super Device. While you can similar editing feature with the Control Panel in HarmonyOS.

As you can see, there isn’t much of a difference between the two software but you can surely give your own opinion on this matter.

For your information, the EMUI 12 has separated Control Panel and Notification Panel into two different features to improve their use cases.

Using Control Panel is easy, useful, and easy to navigate but there’s a lot to explore.

Let’s dive into this feature.

EMUI 12 Control Panel is identical to HarmonyOS’ Control Panel. Once enabled the feature will let you manage the following categories:

  • Media and Connectivity Controller
  • Quick Settings
  • Device+

Time to explain:

Media and Connectivity Controller:

HarmonyOS comes with lots of new features and the user interface changes aren’t unknown to any Huawei smartphone user. However, the new HarmonyOS Control Panel has been quite an attraction to the consumers, because of its uniqueness.

The latest Control Panel is a combination of different settings and provides simplicity over its predecessor in the EMUI 11. The control panel is an easy solution to manage media, audio, shortcut switches, and paired devices.

HarmonyOS is divided into four simple sections:

  1. Media Controller
  2. Shortcuts
  3. Super Device
  4. Smart Devices

Let’s take a look at these sections in detail, also you can check the full demonstration video of the HarmonyOS Control Panel linked below.

HarmonyOS Control panel

Media Playback Controls:

This section allows you to manage your media playback and connected audio devices. You can easily switch and transfer the playback between different supported audio devices.

Shortcut switches:

The shortcut switches allow you to enable or disable any given feature with just a tap. You can also restructure the entire shortcut switches according to your preference.

Super Device:

Super Device is complete a different feature, but its integration in the Control Panel is a blessing for the users. This feature allows you to access multi-screen collaboration between your phone and another device such as a tablet, laptop, or Huawei Vision smart TVs.

The super device is used for tasks such as projecting your phone screen content on other devices or resuming a task on a bigger display where you had previously left off.

Smart device controls:

The control panel integrates another useful quick access short to manage all of your connected Huawei devices via the AI Life app. You can tap on each device to access the respective feature and its corresponding services.
