Huawei has released the January 2023 software update for the Huawei Nova Y90 and Y70 smartphones in the global market, and this firmware clearly improves these phones’ security aspects for a better user experience.

Both Huawei Nova Y90 and Y70 runs EMUI 12 out of the box but it would be interesting if the company could have sent EMUI 13 instead of the security patch. Speaking of which, no one knows, when Huawei will rollout EMUI 13 for global users for the time being.

Coming back to the rollout, January 2023 security update for Huawei Nova Y90 and Nova Y70 comes with EMUI version 12.0.1.177 and EMUI 12.0.1.202. This update is suggested to install on all of the devices sold marketed outside of China and will appear in batches.

We suggest the corresponding users look into the settings > then open System & updates, followed by a Software update, and then tap on CHECK FOR UPDATES.  You can download the latest firmware also from the My Huawei app.

You should know that the update won’t erase your personal data but it is suggested for you back up any important data before updating the device. On the other hand, the package will be deleted automatically once the installation succeeds.

Thanks to the tipster for this amazing information, Masterpiece.

Huawei FreeBuds 5 is coming and soon it will meet the consumers, of course, the plans for this are hidden but the latest inputs will help us to understand its soon-to-release schedule.

According to the details shared by tipster classmateguan, Huawei FreeBuds 5 will launch soon and will continue to wear a semi-in-ear design, which is a marquee style of the earbuds pair. The tipster predicts that March could be the month to bring these earbuds out in the open. It’s possible that the recently leaked FreeBuds Pro 2+ may also share the stage with FreeBuds 5.

It’s been over 2 years since the launch of Huawei FreeBuds 4 earbuds and the tech company, in the time between, has released a new model – FreeBuds 5i. However, that’s just a filler, while the customers have been waiting for a mainstream pair of earbuds.

As for now, we don’t have the specs of the next FreeBuds lineup but we can surely know more about its predecessor.

Huawei FreeBuds 5 is coming

Huawei FreeBuds 4 brings an open-fit active noise cancellation 2.0 technology.  It has adaptive ear-matching technology to detect your in-ear shape and how you wear the earbuds. Then it smartly selects a variety of noise-cancellation presets.

Huawei FreeBuds 4 comes in two aesthetically awesome colors – Ceramic White and Silver Frost. These earbuds are light and each of them weighs just 4.1 grams. It supports gestures and tap support, tap twice to answer and end calls, play/pause music, previous/next song or enable voice assistant. It has a swipe up and down to increase or decrease volume.

Huawei FreeBuds 4 include a special touch of tap and hold, which allows you to enable or disable noise cancellation. This pair of earbuds bring a big battery, it will boast 22 hours of battery with a charging case and ANC off. While you will get 4 hours from FreeBuds only.

The Huawei P60 series has now appeared on Geekbench, which shows Huawei is conducting pre-launch tests and preparations. A model from this lineup features Android 13 and Snapdragon 778 chipset.

According to the Geekbench listing, the Huawei smartphone model MNA-AL00 on Geekbench achieved 551 single-core scores and 2312 multi-core scores. The phone has an octa-core processor with 4 cores running 1.8GHz and the other four at 2.40GHz.

Furthermore, the listing says that the MNA-AL00 has Adreno 642L GPU, which is used in Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset.

The Huawei phone is tested with 8GB of RAM and interestingly, it is coupled with Android 13, which is a rare use of the software. Because Huawei is likely to use HarmonyOS 3.1 in the Huawei P60 lineup and it’s possible that the latest open-source library in the software has been updated, while HarmonyOS 3.0 had Android 12.

Huawei p60 Series Geekbench

Identity:

Earlier last month, the Huawei P60 series visited China’s Telecommunication Equipment’s Network Access Management (TENAA) with models MNA-AL00 and LNA-AL00. It was predicted that these two could be the standard P60 and the Pro version respectively.

So, is the above-mentioned Geekbench model is standard Huawei P60? Probably. Why? because last year, Huawei launched a new P50 series model – P50E and it featured Snapdragon 778.

Moreover, the Huawei P60 series is also reported to come with a P60E model, given the fact that MNA-AL00 also uses the same processor, it is possible to come as Huawei P60E and not the standard version. However, we don’t have any confirmation on this matter.

Huawei P50E Pink Sale

Huawei P60 series:

Past information reveals that the Huawei P60 series will come with a brand-new imaging system, XMAGE. Other than that, the camera will bring a new design. Aside from these, Huawei could use the latest hardware and software features.

The report suggests that the Huawei P60 series will launch in March but we are waiting for an official confirmation.

Huawei is very active in protecting its rights of using the trademark and recently, a Chinese goods seller was caught selling mosquito killer lamps and earphones with Huawei Logo, afterward, it was fined 2 million ($294000) for trademark infringement.

China’s trademark office record shows Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., and Shenzhen Zhiyuan Network Technology Co., Ltd. for unfair competition disputes.

Huawei believes that the products sold by Zhiyuan Company with the words “Huawei” infringed on its rights, and it should be liable for compensation.

Mosquito killer Huawei $294000

Matter in core:

The documents made public by the Chinese patent office reveal that the plaintiff Huawei claimed that the names of the mosquito killer lamps and earphones sold by the defendant Zhiyuan Company in the online store were marked with the words “Huawei”, and prominently used the logo similar to the plaintiff’s trademark in the page picture, constituting trademark infringement.

Mosquito killer Huawei $294000

The defendant also used words such as “official genuine Huawei general purpose” on some product pages to conduct false publicity, which constituted unfair competition. The defendant Tang, as a one-person shareholder of Zhiyuan Company, should bear joint and several liabilities.

The defendant Zhiyuan Company argued that the word “Huawei” did not appear in the title of the mosquito killer lamp product, and the plaintiff did not have any mosquito killer lamp products, so there was no possibility of confusing consumers by misidentifying the brand.

The model of the applicable phone marked on the title of the product is an industry practice, and there is no unfair competition. The defendant Tang argued that he was not the sole shareholder of Zhiyuan Company.

Meanwhile, the total sales volume of the 9 product links involved in the case exceeded 500,000 pieces, with a sales amount of more than 7.55 million yuan ($1.11 million).

The court decided that Zhiyuan Company copied and imitated the well-known trademark “Huawei” involved in the case on the sales page of mosquito killer lamps, which infringed the plaintiff’s right to exclusive use of the well-known trademark.

The prominent use of “Huawei” and other logos on the product pages and names of eight earphones violated the plaintiff’s right to exclusive use of registered trademarks. The aforementioned actions of Zhiyuan Company violated the principle of good faith and belonged to unlawful commercial publicity in a misleading manner and fair competition.

Hence court came to that defendant Zhiyuan Company when the alleged infringement occurred, could not clarify the company’s property and his personal property. In the end, the court ruled that Zhiyuan Company and Tang X (sole shareholder) should jointly compensate Huawei for economic losses of 2 million yuan ($294000) for using its copyrighted logo on mosquito killer.

In the meantime, Huawei keeps on sending security patches, optimizations, and other important performance upgrades over the OTA method directly to the devices.

Meanwhile, Huawei has not released the February 2023 EMUI security patch update for smartphones but it may soon be delivered to the corresponding eligible models.

Why it’s important?

Security patches are important and Huawei releases such upgrades for smartphones to implement high safety measures to guard the data and fight vulnerabilities. Such updates roll out monthly and quarterly sessions.

There are two medium-level vulnerabilities fixed for Bluetooth modules, which could exploit user data. CVE-2022-48295 addresses the fix of authentification of the IHwAntiMalPlugin API, which could let malware attack your Huawei device.

Next comes the Huawei fix for permission management vulnerability in the SystemUI module, which may cause users to receive misleading broadcasts from malicious apps for storage exploitations.

Below you can check all of the CVE counts and codes mentioned in the February 2023 security bulletin.

As of the first month of 2023, Huawei has a variety of smartwatches that are already launched among consumers but it seems like there’s one new unique smartwatch lineup that could soon make its debut.

According to the inputs, Huawei has listed a mysterious new smartwatch lineup on the Huawei Health app with model – AOD-H1. First, we thought of being the upcoming Huawei Watch GT 4 or Watch 4 Series but there’s no confirmation found on the Huawei Health app.

Then a founding revealed that it may not be one of those, instead, Huawei could plan a whole new smartwatch lineup with brand new features.

How?

B19 is the consistent code name of all Huawei smartwatches, for example:

  • SGA-B19 for BUDS
  • AND-B19 for Cyber
  • MIL-B19 for GT 3
  • RUN-B19 for GT Runner

And this doesn’t include the mainstream lineup.

Huawei’s former subsidiary Honor has always used B39 and B19 Example: MUS-B19 corresponds to GS3, and HBE-B39 corresponds to MagicWatch.

Huawei new smartwatch lineup

AOD:

So, AOD-H1 could be an Always on Display (AOD) dedicated smartwatch lineup? Probably, as the industry already has such smart wearables that support this display-oriented technology. However, there’s some room for high battery life and new display tech that could drive consumers’ attention, such as high resolution.

Or it could be a high-end outdoor smartwatch ready for a certain type of user. On the flip side, it may be a new smart band. Yes, possibly but not certain.

Past Launches:

Over the past year, Huawei has done a lot of experiments in the world of smartwatches such as Watch GT Cyber, which brings detachable dial functionality. The Huawei Watch Buds lets you store two wireless earbuds inside the watch face and you can flip it open just like an earbuds case to house those earphones.

Watch GT Runner is a prime example of fulfilling a specific type of consumer filled with lots of tracking exercises.

For now, there’s no official announcement available about the AOD-H1 but we’ll keep you posted.
