Huawei has released February 2023 EMUI security patch details that will fetch better safety for smartphones running EMUI 12.0.1, EMUI 12.0, and EMUI 11 in the global market.

In the meantime, Huawei keeps on sending security patches, optimizations, and other important performance upgrades over the OTA method directly to the devices.

Meanwhile, Huawei has not released the February 2023 EMUI security patch update for smartphones but it may soon be delivered to the corresponding eligible models.

Why it’s important?

Security patches are important and Huawei releases such upgrades for smartphones to implement high safety measures to guard the data and fight vulnerabilities. Such updates roll out monthly and quarterly sessions.

What fixed:

Huawei has fixed 2 issues in critical condition, 14 of them fixed in high mode, medium and low level of vulnerabilities are not recorded this time. While there are 23 common vulnerability exposures patched from the last firmware version.

Specifically, it fixes an unauthorized access vulnerability (CVE-2022-48286) in the multi-screen collaboration module, which could have affected the confidentiality of the files that you are sharing over the air.

There are two medium-level vulnerabilities fixed for Bluetooth modules, which could exploit user data. CVE-2022-48295 addresses the fix of authentification of the IHwAntiMalPlugin API, which could let malware attack your Huawei device.

Next comes the Huawei fix for permission management vulnerability in the SystemUI module, which may cause users to receive misleading broadcasts from malicious apps for storage exploitations.

Below you can check all of the CVE counts and codes mentioned in the February 2023 security bulletin.

Critical:

  • CVE-2022-22088, CVE-2022-41674

We’re in February 2023 and Huawei is rolling out new security updates, patches, and optimizations for EMUI smartphones. These devices in the global market are eligible to get the latest upgrades to improve user experience and performance.

As of February, Huawei has completed the EMUI 12 roadmap in all regions and that’s where the users are concerned. Why? Because EMUI 13 release, beta, and roadmap are still missing in action and global users are waiting for this major rollout.

This year, Huawei is delaying more than ever to reveal the details of a new EMUI version, which is frustrating, and for the time being, there’s no clue when it will actually come.

There is a lot of firmware that roll out in a month and below you can check all of the latest Huawei EMUI updates that are rolling out in February 2023.

Huawei EMUI

January 5, 2023:

  • Huawei P50 Pro is one of the first smartphones to test EMUI 13 but for now, it is getting new firmware that installs January 2023 security update. However, the hopes are stretching far from a new software update.

January 4, 2023:

  • Huawei is expanding January 2023 security update for the Huawei P40 Pro smartphone in Europe, which comes with EMUI version 12.0.0.300. The update has significant advantages over the past and fixes various vulnerabilities for the P40 Pro software system.
  • January 2023 software update is reaching out to more Huawei Mate 40 Pro global users with EMUI 12 and you should know that the firmware build has a 12.0.0.300 version.

How to update:

In order to get the latest software, open the Settings menu on your smartphone and head toward System & updates. From here, you need to go to the Software updates section and tap on CHECK FOR UPDATES. Notice that your phone will take additional minutes. Alternatively, My Huawei app will also work for you.

There are some safety precautions that you can follow, such as important data backup and sufficient storage for the OTA package.

Huawei is rolling out an EMUI 9.1.0.210 update for the Honor Play 3e smartphone that comes with a number of new optimizations for a better user experience.

For your information, Honor Play 3e was launched in 2019 and it’s a handy device that is packed with a 5.71-inch screen with a hole punch design, a 3020mAh battery, a single rear 13MP camera, and a 5MP selfie camera.

Despite the fact that the phone is still running EMUI 9.1 and the company keeps on sending new software updates for the Honor Play 3e, which is quite impressive.

Honor Play 3e with model KSA-AL10  is getting a new software update with EMUI to build version 9.1.0.210, upgrading from EMUI 9.1.0.206. The changelog reveals that the phone is getting a new Petal Light Tour app as well as new network optimizations as well as system stability improvements for Honor Play 3e.

Honor Play 3e

To be mentioned, this is not the only old smartphone to get these new improvements as there are other EMUI 9.1 devices incorporated with such ability.

Below you can check the changelog:

Application:

  • Added a quick download icon for the Petal Light Tour app, click it to download and use it directly. Note: If the “Automatically update apps” in the app market is set to “On” or “Only under Wi-Fi”, it will be updated according to the network.

Add:

  • Network conditions automatically download applications, no need to click)

System:

  • Optimize system stability in some scenarios.

Below you can check the update notes:

  • Make sure you phone is not rooted. You can upgrade to EMUI 9.1.0.210 via OTA.
  • This update is rolling out in batches and users who have not received it yet, please wait patiently.
  • This update will not delete your data, but it is still recommended that you back up all important data to the PC or the cloud (please do not back up to the internal storage space of the phone) before the upgrade, and confirm that the backup content is complete and valid.
  • After the upgrade, the system will perform self-optimization, which may cause the phone to generate some heat, fast power consumption, freezing, or slow charging. It will return to normal after 2-3 days. It is recommended to charge the phone with the screen off for over 2 hours after the upgrade is complete (it is best to charge it overnight with the screen off), and then restart the phone to ensure that the mobile phone application is quickly adapted.
  • After the update is complete, the system will restart, please wait patiently for about five minutes.

Nowadays, we’re close to our smartphones than ever and this close partnership could bring some eye fatigue powered by Blue light. However, there’s a feature called Eye comfort that is pre-blended on Huawei EMUI to save your eyes, adding to this, we’ll also compare it with the Samsung One UI counterpart.

Although, smartphone makers are enhancing the display panel for the best quality possible but blue light emissions cannot be stopped.

Digital Eyestrain:

Using devices up close or for long periods can lead to digital eyestrain. Research has shown that when people use computers, laptops, and other digital devices, they tend to blink less often than normal. Fewer blinks can mean less moisture. Digital eyestrain means different things to different people but is generally related to the focusing system of the eyes.

Eye comfort:

A blue light filter decreases the amount of blue light displayed on the screen of the device, which can suppress the production of the sleep-inducing hormone, so filtering it out can help you sleep better. It will also help you to reduce digital eye strain.

Coming to the comparison, both Huawei EMUI and Samsung One UI come with eye comfort features and it’s time that we look into the aspects.

samsung one ui huawei emui eye comfort

Eye Schedule:

The Eye schedule feature allows you to enable/disable eye comfort with start and end time.

All Day:

Once enabled, the feature overlaps the screen for the entire time until you turn it off manually.

Level:

A slider is available on both software that filters out blue light to reduce eye fatigue, you can slide it left or right to increase/reduce the filter strength.

Flicker reduction:

Only Huawei EMUI comes with a flicker reduction feature, and as the name reflects, the option helps you to reduce flickering on the screen. This will affect color balance and auto-brightness control.
