HarmonyOS 3.0 developer preview beta 2 is launching is soon, which is quite amazing news and another development in this major story. In the meantime, active HarmonyOS 2.0 users are installing new software updates to improve the overall performance of their devices.

The 2.0 developer preview beta will lead us towards HarmonyOS 3.0 public beta, which will start around March this year. On the other hand, the company will allow you to participate in the beta testing as soon as it starts.

In late 2019, Huawei introduced HarmonyOS operating system for all scenario-based interactions and software that could work on all devices. At HDC 2020, the Chinese tech maker unveiled HarmonyOS 2.0 that comes with new platform support such as – smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, smart car systems, smartphones, and other IoT devices. The operating now also supports third-party devices.

Last October, at Huawei Developer Conference 2021 (HDC 2021), Huawei launched the developer preview of HarmonyOS 3.0. However, the initial builds are only available for the developers and may the first quarter to reach public consumers.

HarmonyOS 3.0 Beta 2.0

HarmonyOS:

On December 23, 2021, Huawei announced to achieve 220 million HarmonyOS operating system installation on devices. of which, most of them are active smartphone users. However, the company has also announced that it has installed HarmonyOS in over 300 million devices, which consists of over 100 million HarmonyOS Connect models.

The latter figure is hugely contributed by the third-party device makers such as home appliances and electronics industry partners that could use this OS even on low memory as 128KB.

HarmonyOS 3.0:

HarmonyOS 3.0 has three major improvements over its predecessor including system architecture, super device, and one-time development for multi-time deployment. According to Huawei, the new version of HarmonyOS can be flexibly deployed to various support platforms using the same programming language.

HarmonyOS 3.0 developer preview brings more flexibility for the developers and makes them easy to develop apps for various system architecture with only one-time development.

Aside from this, distributed technology has always been the center of HarmonyOS, and derives so many features that become a stepping stone for this new Huawei software.

HarmonyOS 3.0 developer preview brings better networking enhancement that allows the system’s distributed capabilities to support more devices and better performance for the overall scenario.

For example, a smartphone, a smart TV, and 4 speakers can be merged into a 6 connected super device. This would give you a theater-like use experience and viewing smartphone content on a large screen with better sound.

Google last month, rolled out the first developer preview for developers to test the Android 11 and now the company has published the first Android 11 DP update with a few changes and improvements.

Android 11 Developer Preview 1 is an early baseline build that’s still in active development, so the Android system and apps running on it may contain some bugs.

Android 11 Developer Preview 1.1 (March 2020)

This minor update to Android 11 Developer Preview 1 includes the following critical fixes and changes:

  • Privacy
    • Apps targeting Android 11 no longer receive an erroneous security exception if they try to request a foreground location permission, such as ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION or ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, and any other permission at the same time.
  • Android Studio and tools
    • armeabi-v7a apps no longer cause x86 Emulator images to crash.
    • NDK apps targeting Android 11 are no longer blocked from building because of an issue with the Android Gradle Plugin. This fix is included in both Android Studio 4.0 Beta 2 (or higher) and Android Studio 4.1 Canary 1 (or higher).
  • Non-SDK interface restrictions
    • Greylist restrictions have been temporarily relaxed on a small number of methods used by OkHTTP and related SDKs that are in widespread use. This should provide app developers with more time to test and update their libraries before these restrictions are reinstated later in the Developer Preview.
  • Apps
    • Fixed an issue where a fatal exception was being thrown by com.android.phone.
  • GSI
    • Fixed an issue where using the gsi_gms_arm64-userdebug build failed to boot on Pixel 3 devices.
    • Fixed an issue where the Setup Wizard would crash when running on Pixel 4 XL devices.

As the name says the Android 11 Developer Preview is for developers only, to help them with early development, testing, and feedback.

Android 11 includes behavior changes to help improve performance, battery life, security, and privacy.

Huawei will launch EMUI 11 based on Android 11 at Huawei Developer Conference 2020 scheduled to be held in the second half of 2020.
