At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Huawei launched a real foldable 5G-enabled smartphone – Huawei Mate X.

The Mate X is the world’s thinnest foldable phone, the world’s fastest 5G phone, and it also has the world’s fastest charging solution. The Huawei Mate X will start at a whopping price of 2299 euros ($2600) and will be available in the middle of 2019.

The Mate X is Huawei’s first 5G-enabled smartphone. Huawei said it has an advantage over other companies launching 5G smartphones because it provides the full range of equipment needed to get wireless networks up and running.

The Huawei Mate X is a tablet-phone hybrid with an exterior folding display Huawei calls “FullView display,” which is wrapped around the outside of the device.



The Mate X features a Kirin 980 SoC with Balong 5000 5G modem. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The Mate X battery is 4,500mAh and supports 55W Huawei SuperCharge, which promises an 85% charge in just 30 minutes.

It supports a dual-SIM card, or you can also use one for Huawei’s Nano-Memory Cards. The Mate X has triple camera setup — 40 MP (Wide Angle Lens) + 16 MP (Ultra Wide Angle Lens) + 8 MP (Telephoto).

The Mate X is 5.4mm thick when open and 11mm thick when closed. There are a 2-in-1 power button/fingerprint scanner and a USB-C port on one end of the grip.

When open, the single flexible 8-inch OLED display provides a tablet experience. The Mate X in tablet mode is not quite square with an aspect ratio of 8:7.1. Its 2,480 x 2,200 resolution results in 414 pixels per inch.

When closed, you can use the Mate X as a phone, the screen works as a dual-display. In this phone mode, the front part of the display that is illuminated is a 6.6-inch panel with the more familiar 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

The rear part of the display turns on when the phone is flipped around, with the Mate X offering a slightly smaller 6.38-inch panel with 25:9 aspect ratio.

Huawei said, the Kirin 980 and Balong 5000 modem are capable of 4.6Gbps downlink speeds, which is double the industry standard for 5G and ten times what’s currently available with 4G networks.

It means you can download a 1GB movie in just three seconds at sub-6GHz speeds.

Huawei is rolling out HarmonyOS 3.0.0.193 software update for two tablets – MatePad 11 and MatePad Pro 10.8. This update comes with new improvements for these large-screen devices.

Huawei is rolling out HarmonyOS 3.0.0.193 for MatePad 11, upgrading from HarmonyOS 3.0.0.190/163. While on the other hand, Huawei MatePad Pro 10.8 is getting HarmonyOS 3.0.0.193 upgrading from HarmonyOS 3.0.0.163. Below you can check the eligible tablet models to get a new software update.
